Baby Shower

Okay....shower number 2 is over. Phew. I'm exhausted. Enjoy some pictures!

I found a free printable Golden Books shower theme and that's what I went with. (yeah, I ended a sentence with a preposition.)  The invites I made had the golden books binding print on them. And I tried to keep the theme in as many areas as possible.

I struggled awhile trying to figure out how to make these look as much like onesies as possible.  I think the extra piping and the 'snaps' make them look pretty realistic.

To make the J's, I printed a sheet full of J's in the font I wanted.  Nothing to fancy or scrolly or it wouldn't work.  I placed it under a piece of wax paper, made some royal icing, and got to piping.  While the icing was wet I sprinkled some white sanding sugar on top.  I made them a few weeks ago.  Royal icing keeps for a very long time!

The invites were obviously Golden (yellow) with a touch of blue.  I knew those were the colors I wanted to use.  I'm not sure if other people pick up on a color scheme, but I sure do!  When I went to the store to get the paper plates and utensils, I scoped out the baby section.  I knew I wanted blue and yellow napkins, plates, forks and spoons, but also knew I needed something baby for the cake plates/napkins.  The styles at the store were seriously awful.  I'm not a fan of bears or cheesy styles, so I opted for the least horrid design.

The cake plates said "A new little prince".  I actually ended up really liking it because fairy tales and princes go with the book theme.

I knew I wanted yellow cookies, but needed a design on them.  I used the cake plates for inspiration.

I was very excited to use my new scrolled square cookie cutter.  I splurged and bought a set of fluted square cutters from Sur La Table. I wanted them to be simple.  So I opted for some cursive J's.  What a time saver!

I also made some blue blocks using the same J's from before. I didn't have time to think of any cute packaging so I went for simple balloon ribbon which I already had.

And here they are on display at the shower.  This is two batches of cookie dough.  I had no idea how many people were going to show up and I didn't want to run out of cookies!

Okay, one last picture of the cookies.  I'm totally going to toot my own horn here but I'm pretty proud that in 3 short months I've gone from this  to these cookies.

Now for some serious deliciousness.  I found this fabulous recipe and knew I had to try it.  The shower gave me the perfect opportunity.  They're super sweet so if you make them be sure to have a glass of milk on hand!  I wrapped them in a Golden Books border.

Here's the second half of the same cupcakes.  I loved the golden book covers printable.

Of course I needed to add a picture of the regular yummy food.  Can't go wrong with pigs in a blanket and ham & swiss poppy seed rolls!

My co-worker has already had a previous shower where she received a football themed diaper cake.  I prefer simple diaper cakes with nothing but ribbon and a cute topper.  I've made quite a few.  Hmm...another blog post idea perhaps?

Oh yeah...and a diaper wreath too.
